Q: Why does my grout get so dirty?
A: Grout is rough and porous, dirt readily clings to the rough surface of the grout
while liquid substances penetrate the grout making it unevenly colored. The main
reason that grout gets discolored is mop water. Mop water spreads the dirt from the
tile into the grout lines and because grout is the lowest part of the floor the dirt builds
up into the grout lines making it darker in some ares creating an uneven grout color
appearance.  A dirty mop and not changing the mop water several times during
mopping will eventually lead to discoloration and make even the lightest colored
grout dark. These stains are very hard to remove as well as being an excellent
breeding ground for bacteria, mold & mildew. Professional cleaning is needed to
effectively extract dirt, stains and contaminates from your grout.

Q: Why is tile and grout cleaning necessary?
A: Your  flooring catches visitors' attention instantly as they walk on it.  Notice when
you walk into a home or restaurant one of the first things you look at to determine
cleanliness is the floor.  Your floors may be mopped often but if the grout is stained
and unevenly colored it can make your home seem dirty and less attractive.
Professional cleaning extracts and removes dirt, stains and contaminates.
Professional cleaning will make your floors look clean and attractive again.  Color
seal is recommended if one wishes for a more permanent solution to maintain their
grout.

Q. What is color seal?
A. Color seal also referred to as grout re-coloring or grout staining. Color seal is a
permanent coating designed specifically to be applied to the surface of the grout.
Color seal mimics the grout in texture and appearance. Color seal remove the
porosity of the grout so nothing can penetrate into the grout which reduces the
chances of permanent staining and dirt buildup.  Color sealed grout is easy to
maintain and wipes up easily so both your tile and grout look clean and evenly
colored after recommended mopping. Color seal can either match your existing grout
color or can be a different color to match your decor. Color seal is very strong and
prevents dirt and stains from penetrating into the grout again. Color seal smooths
the surface of the grout so dirt and spills wipe off easily. Color seal makes grout
easier to clean, it last up to 15 years and stays one consistent color.
Q: Why should I seal my grout after cleaning?
A: Tile floors develop traffic patterns in the grout joints similar to pathways on a
carpet. Sealer is a protective penetrating coating that helps to protect grout joints
from future discoloration without changing the appearance of the grout. Sealer
also extends the life of the grout. Only apply sealer on grout that is newly installed
or has been professionally cleaned, otherwise stains can be sealed into the grout.
For natural stone tile the entire tile must be sealed because stone is porous and
can be stained.
For ceramic or porcelain tile only the grout needs to be sealed because the
ceramic and porcelain tile is not porous and cannot be stained.

Q: Why is my grout cracking?
A: Cracking can be caused by several factors one of the most prevalent reasons is
the house is settling causing cracks to occur in the grout.  Also age and
deterioration can be a factor. Using the wrong cleaners can cause grout damage
also. we can repair cracked grout and fill in missing grout.

Q: Can I clean my grout lines with bleach?
A: No, bleach is too harsh and may erode the grout lines, cause discoloration, and
can etch your tile.  Using chlorine bleach to clean stains from grout can seem like
an easy fix, but bleach is corrosive and can damage grout and can lead to worse
problems down the road. Bleach is a very harsh chemical that will eventually erode
your grout away, forcing you to spend tons of money to have your floors
re-grouted.

Q: Can I clean my tile and grout with vinegar?
A: Yes and No, vinegar is an acid, that can erode the grout unless you have a pH
balancer. If you clean with vinegar you can neutralize the acid with baking soda
dissolved in water and mopped over your floor. Never leave unneutralized vinegar
on your grout, it can slowly erode the grout.

Q: Can I use muriatic acid to clean my grout?
A: No, muriatic acid is extremely toxic and poisonous and not to be used indoors, it
can permanently damage grout and in some case making the grout crumble and
fall apart. If this happens your grout would have to be pulled out and reinstalled.
Unbelievably some cleaning companies use muriatic acid to clean residential tile
and grout because it is cheap to buy. When muriatic acid is left on grout it  will
keep eating away at the grout and could eventually cause permanent damage.
When the damage is done the people who cleaned it are no longer around to fix it.
We  never use muriatic acid to clean grout, we only uses cleaners designed for
cleaning tile and grout and are safe for your family and the environment.

Q: Can I use an ordinary toothbrush to scrub my grout?
A: Yes you can, but the bristles on a toothbrush are way too soft to do any real
cleaning, and you'd be on your hands and knees scrubbing for a long time with
minimal results.

Q. What can I use to clean my tile and grout?
A. A neutral cleaner is the best cleaner for tile and grout. After your tile & grout
cleaning a good neutral cleaner should be used to keep it clean. Neutral cleaners
will not leave any haze on the tile and will leave the tile feeling clean without any
residues. Grout Plus has an excellent neutral cleaner that can be purchased
through us. We offer
neutral cleaner for just $20 per gallon which is cheaper
ounce per ounce than ineffective store bought cleaners and only a small amount is
needed in your mop water because it is concentrated.
Grout Plus floor cleaner is
designed to clean ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tile without damaging it or
leaving damaging residues.

Q: Can I put wax on my tile to make it shiny?
A: Wax is really a short-term fix to give it a high shine but the wax will eventually
turn yellow over time and will feel sticky on bare feet. Wax will also wear in the
traffic areas making it dull in traffic areas while remaining shiny near edges and
corners. Removing wax from grout and tile can also be very difficult. Ceramic,
porcelain and stone tile is just not designed to be waxed. Grout Plus process will
remove most waxes from tile and grout but the stripping may cost a bit more if it
does not come off easily. Also the stripping solutions are messy and can cause
damage to baseboards adjacent areas. If you have natural stone floors such as
travertine or marble these floors can be professionally shined using non wax
methods that will give stone surfaces a high gloss look.

Q: Can I put a topical coating or permanent / semi-permanent gloss
coating on my tile and grout?
A:  There are many downsides to applying a topical coating to tile floor. Topical
coatings much like wax will wear off overtime especially in traffic areas the tile will
be shiny on the edges near the walls while becoming dull in traffic areas. Topical
coatings can yellow, chip and peel and will eventually need to be stripped and
reapplied.  Topical coatings are very difficult, messy and costly to remove.
